Whats the difference between DIY hair dyes and salon hair dyes?

I usually go to the hair salon to get my roots done but now i’m thinking of just using a DIY version because its cheaper. Are the hair salon coloring products better for your hair or am I just paying for the hair dressers time, when really I could do it myself at home for a fraction of the price?

My gradutation is TONIGHT! I need a quick but beautiful hairstyle that will work with medium length, african-american hair with over grown bangs. (the bangs come just below my upper lip and my hair comes just below my collar bone.) the texture of my hair is frizzy mixed with relaxers that dont work on me cuz i have bootleg puertorican hair. Plz help! Thanks!
